Why is Vitamin D important for athletes?

Around three-quarters of Americans are deficient, according to the government's National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The US Food and Nutrition Board suggests 200 IU per day to meet this goal, although some suggest 600 to 2000 IU per day.

For well over a decade, vitamin D has been the talk of the sports world. It was first linked to bone health, and for athletes with a history of stress fractures, it is still a first-line suggestion. A recent study of 135 undergraduate runners from Stanford and UCLA discovered that 34% of them, including half of those with past bone stress fractures, used vitamin D pills. But it turns out that vitamin D has a variety of additional functions, including muscular function, muscle regeneration, and the immune system, all of which are relevant to athletes.

This issue has been thoroughly researched by scientists. They discovered that each of us has a unique ideal vitamin D zone based on our goals and demographics. For example, if your vitamin D level is low (less than 50 ng/ml), you'll have a longer response time, poorer coordination, weaker muscular activity, and slower performance than someone with enough vitamin D.

Athletes with greater vitamin D levels have a higher oxygen consumption rate, which helps them breathe better and enhance endurance.

Vitamin D promotes calcium metabolism, improves bone and muscular strength, and heals muscle tissue, protecting against overuse injuries (such as stress fractures). Furthermore, new information reveals that athletes who are vitamin D deficient are more likely to suffer from stress fractures and have poor muscular function. When athletes' vitamin D levels are adequate, their blood circulates more efficiently, which strengthens their hearts and lowers their risk of cardiovascular disease.

According to research, athletes who took vitamin D3 supplements had a 19% increase in lean muscle mass and strength in the gym compared to those who didn't.

What makes Kōru's sunscreen ideal for triathletes and swimmers?

Kōru packs its Mineral Sun Barrier Lotion and Mineral Sun Barrier Stick (made for more precise application) with a water-resistant and sweat-proof 40 SPF formula to withstand the harshest elements during intense physical activity.

Using our patented zinc-oxide technology, endurance athletes and anyone else performing an athletic event outside will receive 80 minutes of protection, while still enjoying the Vitamin D benefits of outdoor activity.

Barrier was thoroughly tested by multi-sport athletes for efficacy both in and out of the water. Barrier can confidently say that if used before your Ironman, it will endure the full swim distance! Anyone who comes into touch with water has this talent, not just pure multi-sport athletes.

To provide complete protection, use our water resistant sunscreen every 80 minutes of swimming, jogging, cycling, or sweating.

Whether you're a golfer, hiker, lifeguard, or simply an athlete looking for a better sport cream for your skin, the Mineral Sun Barrier Stick is a great alternative to regular sunscreen.

Additional Product FAQ

What is the shelf life?

The product has been tested to remain shelf stable for a minimum of 12 months with longer testing currently underway.

Please refer to each bottle for its exact expiration date.

What are the storage requirements?

The products have been tested to remain effective when stored above freezing temperatures and below 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

We recommend that the products also be shielded from direct sunlight as this may create an internal temperature above 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

How do you use Kōru's airless pump bottles?

Using an airless pump bottle design has a few advantages.

It's really sanitary. This container design protects your skin cream from impurities by preventing extra oxygen from coming into touch with it. Removing any internal straws from the design and instead relying on air intake systems and vacuums to move the product limits microbial development and keeps it fresher for longer.

The airless pump mechanism is dependable, distributing substance in precise amounts for uniform application.

Pump the top of your airless pump bottle a few times when you first get it, and your product should start distributing properly. It's crucial to keep in mind that a few empty pumps are usual at first; some bottles may require up to 30 pumps if they've been sitting for a while.

We propose priming the pump if you don't obtain any product after 5 pumps. Start by replacing the cap on the bottle, then holding it upside-down and lightly tapping the top on a flat surface. This should get the product rolling in the right direction.

Do you need to be an endurance athlete to use Kōru Performance Products?

No! Many activities take place in the outdoors and our Kōru Performance products service all athletes, not just endurance athletes.

For this example, we'll use golf. Golf is one of the most widely played outdoor sports across all age groups.

If you're a golfer, you already know how vital it is to protect your skin with sunscreen because you spend so much time on the course in search of perfection.

Because your skin - or your nose, face, neck, arms, and lips - is exposed to the sun so frequently, you run the risk of developing melanoma and skin cancer. However, we realize that you don't want to risk losing a stroke because you used a greasy sunscreen product.

As a result, you'll have to be selective about your sun protection, so opt for Kōru Mineral Sun Barrier Lotion and Sticks.

Kōru Barrier products provide broad-spectrum zinc-based sun protection, shielding you from both sunburn-causing UVB and skin-damaging UVA rays. Furthermore, our sunscreens are both water-resistant and streak-free.

They're carefully engineered to wick perspiration and water away from your skin, keeping you cool and your vision clear. Our water-resistant sunscreens have been thoroughly tested and shown effective in immersion testing to provide long-term sun protection. We recommend reapplication after 80 minutes.

Kōru Barrier products are available in two types, so you may choose the one that best suits your needs. They both provide the same amount of protection and water resistance, allowing you to perform at a high level regardless of the sport you're participating in.

The Kōru Barrier Stick, which is made with zinc, is perfect for rapid touch-ups and accurate application, while the Kōru Barrier Lotion is great for bare arms and legs as well as hair heads. When applied liberally and carefully, the lotion can provide all-over protection.

Don't be stingy with your sun protection. You're out in the sun for lengthy periods of time as a golfer or an athlete in any outdoor sport, and the last thing you need is to be distracted by concerns about harmful sun exposure.

On the other side, you'll need sunblock that won't obstruct your ability to drive the ball to the green or make precise putts. Kōru Barrier products are designed with you in mind and can help protect you whether you're an expert athlete or a casual enjoyer of sport.

What are the health benefits of Arnica Montana?

Arnica Montana is a plant that has been used for generations for its ability to reduce pain and inflammation. It is found throughout the Rocky Mountains, where it is used to treat everything from bruises and sprains to arthritis and severe muscle aches. The most common form of arnica used today is in capsules, tablets, and extracts, but it is also available as an oil extract, which can be used on the skin. It is one of the natural ingredients in the Kōru Recovery Lotion. Some of the benefits of arnica include reducing pain and inflammation, which can help reduce the swelling and speed the healing process, and it has been shown to help improve the blood flow in the area of the injury, which can help reduce the soreness.

Arnica Montana is highly regarded as an effective treatment for muscle injuries and other athletic injuries because it is easily accessible, causes relatively few side effects, and possesses a wealth of anecdotal lore. Arnica Montana also has a long history as a folk remedy, dating back centuries and often still used today, especially for muscle injuries. All forms of arnica have shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-pain properties; even the least potent ones have been shown to help with pain and inflammation, and have been used as alternative pain relievers, often with good results.

Arnica Montana is a multipurpose herb, known for relieving the symptoms of bruises, sprains, and arthritis. It is commonly used by athletes for preventing and/treating muscle injuries, and has become a common ingredient in body lotion and cosmetics. Arnica Montana is also used as a home remedy for many other ailments, including rheumatism, gout, and arthritis.

Try Arnica Montana to help reduce the inflammation and pain caused by a sports injury. It has been clinically shown to help reduce pain and inflammation, help speed the healing process, and improve the flexibility of your muscles after an injury. The best way to use Arnica Montana is to apply the Kōru Recovery Lotion to the affected area 2 to 3 times a day. For best results, apply in the morning and again before bed.

What are the health benefits of menthol?

Menthol has also been shown to have mood-boosting benefits, which is why it is often used in products that are intended to improve mood. Menthol has been shown to have a cooling sensation on the lips and in the nose, and it has been shown to have a mood-boosting effect on the user. This has led to the use of menthol in products such as chewing gum and mouthwash.

Menthol’s ability to provide a cooling sensation is what originally gave it the name “mint,” but its ability to provide a cooling sensation is much more than that.  Menthol has been shown to have several physical benefits on the body and has been found to improve sports performance. It is one of the natural ingredients found in our Kōru' Endurance Lotion and Recovery Lotion.

First, menthol has been shown to improve blood flow to the muscles, which is beneficial when a person is working out to get a better workout. Menthol has also been shown to reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation is a condition that can occur in the body when there is an overproduction of white blood cells. Second, menthol has been shown to improve circulation to the extremities, which is beneficial when a person is exercising. Finally, menthol has been shown to improve the metabolism of the body, which is beneficial when a person is trying to lose weight.

In addition to these potential performance-enhancing benefits of menthol, menthol has also been shown to have several health benefits. For example, menthol has been shown to have anti-bacterial benefits and has been shown to reduce stress.  Menthol may also have contributed to the relief of sore throats and other illnesses. It may also have had health benefits for a person who was seeking relief from a sore throat or a cough.

Did you know that the menthol molecule works by stimulating your cold receptors? These receptors are on the small branches in your cutaneous nerves. Menthol helps to open the pores, leaving your skin feeling softer and more comfortable. It is also widely known to help people sleep better. A menthol-based product incorporating this molecule has been shown to improve sleep quality and increase falling asleep more quickly. As a result, it has been shown to increase both the ease of falling asleep and the amount of time you spend sleeping during the night.
